The White House issued a statement on the “Trump Effect” on border security, announcing a 36% decline in apprehensions at the southern border in January and that “illegal border crossings are at record lows as illegal aliens are promptly arrested and sent home.” Relatedly, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released its January 2025 statistics, noting that Border Patrol apprehensions dropped 85% compared to January 2024. The CBP release also highlights that the agency stopped nearly 2,000 shipments of products made with forced labor from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The news comes as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced a multimillion ad campaign this week directed at undocumented immigrants warning them they will be found and deported under President Trump. The series of ads will run on radio, broadcast, and digital, in multiple countries and regions in various dialects.
