Survey Shows Over 90% of Pharmacies Considering Dropping CMS-Negotiated Drugs

According to a survey released by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), more than 90% of independent pharmacies may not sell Medicare Part D prescription drugs that were selected to undergo price negotiation through the Inflation Reduction Act’s Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program. The NCPA asserts that this is the case because CMS failed to incorporate requirements that pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) fairly reimburse community and long-term care pharmacies adequately for negotiated drugs. As the results came out, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that, if elected president, she would pass legislation to prevent PBMs from shortchanging rural independent pharmacies.
