Supreme Court Allows Trump Administration to End TPS for Venezuelan Migrants

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court lifted a federal district court’s injunction preventing the Trump Administration from terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an estimated 350,000 Venezuelans living in the U.S. during ongoing litigation. The end of TPS means that these Venezuelan migrants are at risk of losing their right to temporarily live and work in the U.S. and could be subject to deportation. The high court’s order left open the possibility that at least some of the Venezuelans could press other legal arguments to maintain their work status based on their individual facts and circumstances. The brief order noted that Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson would have denied the Trump Administration’s application to lift the lower court’s injunction.
