Last night, President Trump signed a proclamation entitled, “Restricting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats.” The proclamation bans citizens from 12 countries from entering the United States, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Additionally, the proclamation restricts citizens from seven countries from entering the U.S. under the B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J visas, including Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. The proclamation includes exceptions for lawful permanent residents, existing visa holders, certain visa categories, and individuals whose entry serves U.S. national interests. The travel ban will take effect on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 12:01am ET.
