The House Republican Caucus selected Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) as the new Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee. Garbarino beat out Reps. Michael Guest (R-MS), Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), and Clay Higgins (R-LA) for the spot following former Chair Rep. Mark Green’s (R-TN) retirement from Congress earlier this month. The House Homeland Security Committee has broad oversight of U.S. immigration enforcement, including the operations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol and will play a key role in any efforts in Congress to reform immigration, including to address Dreamers and recipients of Temporary Protected Status.
