House Passes Reconciliation Bill, President Trump Will Sign It on July 4th

This afternoon, the House passed the Republican reconciliation bill by a vote of 218-214 after lawmakers pulled an all-nighter during which President Trump and House GOP leaders strong-armed about a dozen Republican holdouts to support enactment of the Senate-passed bill. The vote also came after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) delivered the longest speech in the history of the House, speaking for 8 hours and 44 minutes using a “Magic Minute” that allows leadership to speak for an unlimited amount of time. The measure now heads to President Trump’s desk with all of the priorities that SWACCA advocated for throughout this process intact and with none of the offsets that SWACCA opposed. President Trump is planning a signing ceremony for the bill tomorrow, July 4th at the White House.
