DHS Ends Temporary Protected Status for Immigrants from Honduras and Nicaragua on September 6

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Honduran and Nicaraguan immigrants on September 6, 2025. The TPS program allows immigrants from designated countries to stay in the U.S. for up to 18 months with legal employment authorization when conditions like armed conflict or natural disaster prevent a safe return. DHS estimates that there are about 72,000 TPS holders from Honduras and about 4,000 TPS holders from Nicaragua.
