As the Trump Administration continues to focus on immigration enforcement, some congressional Republicans are pushing for expanded immigration opportunities for workers in specialized sectors, including construction. Notably, during last month’s House Appropriations Committee markup of the fiscal year 2026 Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill, Republicans adopted an en banc amendment to expand visa opportunities for employers and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) recently acknowledged the need to include workers in certain sectors in any immigration reform effort and to “start fixing the existing programs we have.”
