Last night, President Trump ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the release of grand jury transcripts in the Jeffrey Epstein case. Trump’s directive came after House GOP leadership drafted and the House passed a non-binding resolution calling for—but not legally requiring—the Justice Department to release some information related to Jeffrey Epstein following a Wall Street Journal article detailing previously undisclosed interactions between President Trump and Epstein and as a new poll from Reuters finds that 69% of Americans think the Trump Administration is hiding information about Epstein.
The developments come as President Trump refuses to appoint a special prosecutor to look into the handling of the Epstein files and as Trump threatens to sue the Wall Street Journal over its Epstein article, saying it relied on false, fabricated information. The White House also has not responded to Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden’s (D-OR) claims of “undisclosed Epstein files” his staff obtained from the Treasury Department with information on Epstein’s “4,725 wire transfers adding up to nearly $1.1 billion” that flowed through “multiple Russian banks that are now under sanctions, to process payments related to sex trafficking.” The week started with President Trump disavowing members of his base who continue to focus on the Administration’s handling of the Epstein case, saying they were “weaklings” who “have bought into this ‘bull—-,’ hook, line, and sinker” and that he no longer wants their support.
