FAA Announces $332 Million in Airport Improvement Grant Funding SWACCA Helped to Secure in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the award of $332 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program for 171 grants in 32 states to modernize airport infrastructure. The AIG funds can be used for terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, airport planning, development, sustainability, runway safety enhancements, and noise compatibility projects at eligible airports. SWACCA successfully lobbied to include $15 billion in funding for airport improvements in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was signed into law by President Biden in 2021.

The awards announced in this round of funding include: (1) $18.8 million to Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport in Alaska to expand the terminal to accommodate additional passengers and to rehabilitate the snow removal equipment storage building; and (2) $3.9 million to Hector International Airport in North Dakota to expand the existing terminal to add four new gates to accommodate more passengers.
