Commerce Department Says Construction Spending Fell in April

The Department of Commerce said that construction spending dropped 0.4% in April, after a downwardly revised 0.8% decline in March. Economists had forecast construction spending would rise 0.3% after a previously reported 0.5% decline in March. The department found that construction spending was weighed down by a decline in outlays on single family housing projects amid higher borrowing costs and a rising supply of unused homes.
