CBO Report Says 1.6M Fewer Immigrants Expected This Year Amid Trump and Reconciliation Bill Immigration Policies

The Congressional Budget Office issued a report finding that President Trump’s immigration policies, along with those in the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act, will reduce the number of immigrants in the U.S. in the coming years. The CBO now predicts that total net immigration to the U.S. will be 1.6 million people smaller in 2025, 960,000 people smaller in 2026, and 160,000 people smaller each year, on average, from 2027-2033. Contributing to that downward trend, the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act is estimated to result in the removal of 290,000 immigrants and the voluntary exit of 30,000 others over the next five years. The CBO has not yet calculated how stemming the flow of immigration will affect the federal budget, with those estimates expected next year.
