White House Announces Trade Deal with Japan

President Trump announced a trade framework with Japan, placing a 15% tariff on goods imported from that nation, down from the 25% tariffs Trump threatened to impose on August 1. The president also said that Japan would invest $550 billion into the U.S. and would “open” its economy to American autos and rice. A White House fact sheet on the deal is available here. This comes as the Trump Administration and the European Union (EU) are making progress in negotiating a trade agreement in which the EU would accept 15% tariffs on most exports to the U.S.—similar to the agreement the Administration secured with Japan.
