Walmart has been undertaking the largest 3-D printed commercial real estate projects in U.S. history to see if 3-D printing could be used to build warehouse and retail space faster and in more cost-effective ways than traditional construction. So far, the company has found that working outdoors in summer heat and high humidity were a problem for this budding technology. Walmart also found that initial projects finished behind schedule after construction crews contended with finicky material and clogged hoses and that the cost of building by 3-D technology was roughly the same as traditional construction.
