Trump Justice Department Signals It Will Withdraw from Defending Pregnant Workers Fairness Act Final Rule

The Trump Justice Department suggested that it will withdraw from defending the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) final rule defending pregnant worker accommodations under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act in a District Court in Louisiana. The final rule was challenged by the U.S. Conference of Bishops over its inclusion of abortion as a related medical condition to pregnancy that employers must reasonably accommodate. The District Court prevent the EEOC from enforcing the abortion accommodation provisions against the U.S. Conference of Bishops, as well as the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. The ruling was one of several conflicting district court rulings in cases challenging the EEOC’s final rule.
