Overnight, former President Donald Trump endorsed House Judiciary Committee Chair and House Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan (R-OH) in the race for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives triggered by the Tuesday vote to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House. Tuesday’s vote marked the first time in U.S. history that a sitting House Speaker was removed. Jordan is currently running in a two-way race for Speaker against House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Trump’s endorsement comes ahead of next Tuesday’s “Speaker Candidate Forum,” where Jordan and Scalise will debate their visions for leading the House Republican Caucus ahead of a tentative Wednesday caucus vote to elect the next Speaker of the House.
