Trump Advisor Reportedly Urges ICE to Stop Focusing on Deporting Gang Members and Criminals and Instead “Just Go Out There and Arrest Illegal Aliens”

The Wall Street Journal published a detailed article about how President Trump’s late May outburst about Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) deportation numbers resulted in Trump advisor Stephen Miller having a meeting at ICE headquarters where he directed the agency to stop limiting their efforts to gang members and violent criminals and to “just go out there and arrest illegal aliens.” Miller specifically urged ICE to raid Home Depot parking lots and other places where immigrants seek work and told agents to “do what you need to do” to make more arrests. The White House and the Department of Homeland Security have made clear there will be consequences for not hitting arrest targets. Late last month, the top ICE official overseeing arrests and deportations, Kenneth Genalo, resigned rather than fire deputies for not meeting the arrest and deportation goals.

Separately, TIME Magazine published a lengthy article titled Inside Donald Trump’s Mass-Deportation Operation that discusses “how Trump is trying to transform the country by deporting millions of its inhabitants—and what it will mean for their communities.”
