Trump Administration to Resume Processing DACA Applications

In a court filing, the Trump Administration said it would resume processing initial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) applications so that immigrants brought to the U.S. without authorization as children will be able to get DACA protections from deportation and removal. The filing comes a congressional Republicans wait for President Trump to signal he is ready to negotiate a permanent solution for DACA recipients as set forth in Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar’s (R-FL) reintroduced Dignity Act providing a pathway to legal status for DACA recipients and others. The developments come amid continued reports of DACA recipients without criminal records being detained by federal immigration officials despite the protection the program offers from immigration enforcement.
