Senate Votes to End Debate on Chavez-DeRemer Nomination, Setting Her Up for Confirmation as Labor Secretary Next Week

The Senate voted 66-30 to close debate on the SWACCA-supported nomination of former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) to be the next Labor Secretary. Chavez-DeRemer picked up the support of 15 Senate Democrats, while Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was the only Republican to oppose ending debate on her nomination. The strong, bipartisan vote paves the way for her to be confirmed as Labor Secretary when the Senate reconvenes next week. Additionally, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee voted along party lines 12-11 to approve the nomination of Keith Sonderling to be Deputy Secretary of Labor and send it to the full Senate for consideration.
