Senate Republicans held their leadership elections for the 119th Congress and elected: (1) Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) as the next Senate Majority Leader, beating out Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Rick Scott (R-FL); (2) Senate GOP Conference Chair John Barrasso (R-WY) as the next Senate Majority Whip; (3) Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) as the next Senate GOP Conference Chair after he defeated Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA); (4) Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) as GOP Policy Committee Chair; (5) Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) as Conference Vice Chair; and (6) Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) as Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee
