Senate Fails for a Seventh Time to Pass Legislation Reopening the Federal Government

This afternoon, the Senate held its seventh failed vote to reopen the federal government, voting 54-45—short of the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster—to reject the House-passed, seven-week continuing resolution to fund the government. The same three Democratic lawmakers on the previous Senate votes—Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Angus King (I-ME), and John Fetterman (D-PA)—joined Republicans in support the House CR. After the vote, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) shot down speculation that Republicans would end the filibuster to break the funding stalemate, saying “I have not had that conversation.”
