President Trump Signs Executive Order “Restoring Common Sense to Federal Office Space Management”

President Trump signed an Executive Order (EO) entitled, “Restoring Common Sense to Federal Office Space Management.” A fact sheet on the EO is available here. The EO revokes two previously issued EOs—EO 12072 issued by President Carter and EO 13006 issued by President Clinton—that ordered the federal government to prioritize central business districts when citing federal facilities in urban areas and encouraged federal agencies to locate their facilities in historic properties and districts, especially when located in central business areas. The White House states that the rescissions of these EOs will allow federal agencies to select office spaces and facilities based on cost-effectiveness, mission suitability, and “the needs of the American people.”
