President Trump Says He Will Not Change His Mind About Enacting Reciprocal Tariffs on April 2nd

President Trump doubled down on his tariff plans today, specifically pledging that he would not change his mind about enacting sweeping “reciprocal tariffs” set to take effect on April 2, 2025 on countries that impose tariffs on U.S. goods. Trump also singled out Canada, declaring that the U.S. does not “need anything they have” while repeating his calls to turn Canada into the “51st state.” Trump’s remarks came after a new poll found that 57% of Americans, including one in three Republicans, believe he is being “too erratic” in his moves to shake up the U.S. economy. Americans instead said they want Trump to continue to focus on combating high prices even as there are growing concerns that his tariff policies will drive up costs.
