President Trump is reportedly planning to implement copper tariffs as soon as next week—much earlier than expected. The accelerated timeline for action indicates that little consideration will be given to comments due on April 1st on the U.S. Trade Representative’s Section 232 inquiry into the national security implications of imports of copper into the U.S. and that USTR’s investigation is “little more than a formality.”
