New Report Warns Trump Administration Immigration Crackdown Could Remove 1 Million Construction Workers from the U.S. Workforce

A new report from FWD.US, a group that advocates for bipartisan immigration reform, warned that the Trump Administration’s immigration crackdown will increase inflation and remove more than 1 million workers from the construction and housing industries and nearly 7 million workers from labor force overall.

The report asserts that just the Trump Administration’s cancellation of legal work permits for those with Temporary Protected Status and other protected statuses, will result in the loss of approximately 2.6 million workers, including 530,000 workers in construction, 360,000 in leisure and hospitality, 290,000 in retail and wholesale trade, and 280,000 in manufacturing.

The report also predicts that continued implementation of the President’s immigration enforcement plan will cause prices to rise 6.1% in the construction industry, 14.5% in the agriculture and food industry, 2.2% in transportation and utilities, and 3.9% in the leisure/hospitality industry.
