New Report from JEC Democrats Finds Trump’s Deportation Plans Could Remove Up to 1.5 Million Undocumented Workers from the Construction Industry

A new report from Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) found that President-elect Trump’s deportation plans could: (1) reduce real domestic gross product by as much as 7.4% by 2028; (2) push prices up to 9.1% higher; and (3) cost 44,000 U.S.-born workers their jobs for every half a million immigrants who are removed from the labor force. In particular, the report notes that Trump’s deportation plans would exacerbate ongoing worker shortages in the construction, transportation and warehousing, manufacturing, and agriculture industries. The American Immigration Council estimates that deportations would hit the construction industry hardest, removing up to 1.5 million undocumented workers from the industry.
