NAHB Reports Housing Market Index Declined in January as Trump Details Tariff Plans

As President Trump begins to roll out new tariffs, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reported that its Housing Market Index dropped five points from 47 in January to a reading of 42 in February. Of the index’s three components, current sales conditions fell four points to 46, buyer traffic fell three points to 29, and sales expectations in the next six months plunged 13 points to 46. According to the NAHB, any measure in the index below 50 is considered “negative sentiment.”
