House GOP Introduces Bill to Fund the Federal Government Through December 20

Following the defeat of a six-month continuing resolution (CR) that would have funded the federal government through March 2025 and included provisions that would have required proof of U.S. citizenship in order to vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) over the weekend released a “clean” three-month CR that would fund the government through December 20, 2024. A “clean” CR means the bill is stripped of any partisan policy riders that would threaten bipartisan support for the funding measure. The House is expected to vote on the CR by mid-week as Congress races against a September 30, 2024, shutdown deadline.
