House Education and the Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx (R-NC) subpoenaed Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su for information about the Biden Administration’s “efforts to eliminate the independent contractor model and classify as many workers as possible as employees.”
In the subpoena, Foxx is seeking: (1) the total number of instances of misclassification that Labor Department inspectors have found; (2) the total number of misclassification enforcement investigations initiated, including the industry of those involved; and (3) the total number of misclassification enforcement investigations in which the Labor Department has collaborated with the National Labor Relations Board and the Federal Trade Commission. The subpoena requests responses by October 7, 2024.
