Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) led 26 of her Democratic colleagues in a letter to Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer urging the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to finalize its rulemaking on heat injury and illness in indoor and outdoor work settings. Back in Janaury, SWACCA worked with its allies in the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC) to submit comments urging OSHA to develop a construction-specific standard instead of the one-size-fits-all approach OSHA took in its proposed rule. The SWACCA/CISC comments also highlighted significant issues with the proposed rule, including: (1) the rule’s unworkable proposed heat triggers; (2) the overly prescriptive requirements of the proposed rule; (3) the need for greater flexibility in the acclimatization procedures for new and returning workers; and (4) the need to simplify the proposal’s training requirements.
