Last night, the Senate voted 51-48 to pass a resolution to undo President Trump’s 25% tariffs on Canadian imports. Four Republicans—Sens. Mitch McConnell (KY), Rand Paul (KY), Susan Collins (ME), and Lisa Murkowski (AK)—joined with Democrats in support of the resolution. The resolution, however, stands little chance of passing the Republican-controlled House after House leadership included provisions in the continuing resolution funding the government that prevents any member of Congress from bringing up a resolution terminating Trump’s national emergency justifying the Canadian and Mexican tariffs.
