ETA Details Impacts of Shutdown on Registered Apprenticeship Programs and Other Agency Functions

The Employment and Training Administration (ETA) issued Training and Employment Notice 02-25 entitled, “Impact of a Temporary Suspension of Federal Government Services on Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration Funded Programs and Activities.” In the notice, ETA explains that for most programs, staff will not be available to answer questions, provide technical assistance, or to resolve any technical issues with performance data or financial report submissions. Additionally, daily Departmental functions associated with grants will cease. On registered apprenticeship, the notice explains that program sponsors in the 27 states in which ETA’s Office of Apprenticeship is the Registration Agency will experience delays in registration of new programs, new apprentices, and verification of their status as registered apprenticeship programs during the shutdown. It highlights that such delays may impact some employers’ ability to hire new apprentices and/or bid on new projects that require proof of registered apprenticeship program status.
