The Department of Energy (DOE) announced $149.87 million for 67 energy conservation and clean energy projects at federal facilities across 28 states and territories and six international locations. Funded by the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the selected projects include: (1) a federal building and courthouse in Montana that will repurpose abandoned mining caves’ groundwater for a geothermal heating and cooling system to replace existing gas boilers; (2) a DOE national laboratory in California that will expand its microgrid solution to 9.4 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity and boost energy storage to 2,000 kilowatt hours; (3) a Coast Guard yard in Maryland that will slash its on-site fossil fuel usage with a comprehensive heat pump solution; and (4) a military fort in South Texas that will implement advanced water conservation technologies to create a self-sustaining water system.
