DHS Says Border Patrol Encountered Just 200 Migrants at the U.S.-Mexico Border Over the Weekend, the Lowest Apprehension Day in 15 Years

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced on social media that, on Saturday, “Customs and Border Patrol encountered just 200 aliens at the U.S. Southern Border…the lowest single apprehension day in over 15 years.” Over the course of its first month in office, the Trump Administration has paired a planned “public relations blitz” with its policy actions on immigration, including appearances by key officials on TV news and social media, in advertising campaigns by officials such as DHS Secretary Noem, and at a press conference last month in which Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a lawsuit against New York for its sanctuary policies. Separately, the White House posted an article, “Sick Politicians Want Killers, Rapists Roaming Our Streets,” contrasting local politicians’ statements with stories of the criminal aliens recently arrested in sanctuary cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
