DHS Extends Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it would extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan for 18 months. TPS shields immigrants who entered the U.S. without authorization or overstayed visas from deportation and only people from certain countries qualify. Per the extensions: (1) about 232,000 Salvadoran beneficiaries of TPS can reenroll to retain their status through September 9, 2026; (2) about 600,000 Venezuelan beneficiaries of TPS can reenroll to retain their status through October 2, 2026; (3) about 1,900 Sudanese nationals can reenroll to retain their status through October 19, 2026; and (4) about 103,700 Ukrainian beneficiaries can reenroll to retain their status through October 19, 2026.
