Last night, Congressional lawmakers released a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through March 14, 2025. Included in the legislation is a provision extending for one year—from January 1, 2025 to January 1, 2026—the beneficial ownership reporting deadline for companies formed or registered before January 1, 2024. The extension in the CR comes as the Corporate Transparency Act and its beneficial ownership reporting requirements remain enjoined nationwide following a ruling in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on December 4, 2024. The federal government appealed that decision on December 9, 2024.
