CBO Estimate Finds Federal Budget Deficit Grew to $1.8 Trillion in Fiscal Year 2025

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released new estimates that found that the federal budget deficit grew to $1.8 trillion in fiscal year 2025 as interest on the public debt surpassed $1 trillion for the first time ever. The report also found that President Trump’s tariffs generated $195 billion in customs duties in FY2025, up from $77 billion last year.
